we understand as men get older natural testosterone production will start to decline. Falling at a rate of about 1% a year after the age of 30 [1], leading to many looking to optimise there testosterone levels and reduce that impact. Of course there are also many other reasons beyond aging that a mans testosterone levels are starting to drop. This can be anything from weight gain, to illness, to medication. Either way, if you're in need of a natural boost to your testosterone there is something you can do about it.

There's a multitude of vitamins, minerals and herbal compounds which can have the effect of raising testosterone, but not all natural testosterone boosters are created equal. In fact most don't work. So we've put some of the industries finest to the test so you don't have to.

These are not meant to be taken as an alternative to TRT, but could help you with some less severe cases.

How We Judge The Top Testosterone Boosters

Here at HLTH Magazine we've spent a lot of time researching, testing and trailing supplements that all claim to raise men's test levels. We rate the best testosterone boosters based on how effectively they raise test levels in men as well as how they treat the specific issues men are looking to get a testosterone booster for, such as:

- Muscle Gain
- Libido
- Customer Satisfaction

- Ingredient Quality
- Potential Side Effects
- Value

We also don't approve of proprietary blends, these mean we don't really know if you you're getting good value and generally that you're not getting an effective testosterone booster supplement. This is especially true, considering only around 30% of testosterone supplements actually have been shown to work, with 70% having no or indeterminant effects. [2]  Also we won't recommend products that we haven't tested ourselves.

Why Would You Need A Testosterone Booster?

Natural and most importantly legal testosterone boosters can have a great impact on your overall physical health, sadly men lose about 1% of their testosterone production per year once they pass 30, but there are things you can try as alternatives to TRT before you commit to something so serious.

Of course most men end up looking for testosterone boosters as a way to improve virility, or because they have started gaining fat and losing muscle mass as their metabolism slows with age. A test booster could potentially help with that, especially if your test levels are declining due to dietary deficiencies. Test boosters are also recommended for people coming of any medication which can supress testosterone levels to make sure your body has everything it needs to recover it's natural production.

However, there has been a growing number of men looking for testosterone boosters as a way to stall the decline of their natural test levels beyond just giving them an edge.

TestoFuel Customer Reviews

Testofuel's testosterone supplement boasts pretty good verified reviews coming in at a 4.3* average on third party platforms like trustpilot. This is particularly good for test supplements, most of which are quite negatively reviewed. Generally customers tend to focus on the muscle gain elements of the supplement, which makes sense considering how Testofuel position themselves.

What's in Testofuel

D-Aspartic Acid - D-Aspartic acid boosts the body's ability to process protein as well as enhancing the body's natural ability to produce testosterone. It's also been shown to be effective for muscle growth, particularly in trained men, which is good for people who've hit a plateu.

Oyster Extract- Oyster extracts contains a ton of natural minerals and vitamins that boost testosterone production the body, it's also a crazy expensive ingredient, so doesn't make it into a lot of supplements, there's a reason the myth of oysters being an aphrodisiac exists.

Ginseng Extract-  Ginseng has long been used to help men with sexual issues and recent studies have started to suggest there's something to that. Whether it's in the minerals and vitamins in the extract or the ginsenocides, its performance has been seen to be one of the better options in recent years. Typically speaking panax ginseng is in all of the most potent testosterone booster pills right now.

Fenugreek Extract- Fenugreek has been seen to help thermogenesis in the body, leaning to more lean muscle and less fat storage, improved lean muscle mass percentages definitely improve testosterone production rates.

Vitamins- Testofuel contains B6, K2, and vitamin D all of which are essential for the body to stay healthy and produce testosterone. Vitamin deficiency is one of the most common reasons aside from age for low test levels. B6 is particularly important for hormone production, and also doubles up to raise energy levels throughout the day.

Minerals-  Testofuel also contains Zinc and Magnesium, a deficiency in either of them will prevent successful testosterone production. This blend of high end ingredients is part of what makes testofuel our best testosterone booster.

All in all TestoFuel is packed full of ingredients that can help increase testosterone levels, and we'd highly recommend it. You can purchase it from roarambition.com, but we'd recommend that you check testofuel.com for the best deals.

What Happened When We Tried TestoFuel?

We gave Mike (one of the HLTH team) Testofuel to try for 90 days. Mike was already in good shape, 6'2, 183lbs and around 12% body fat, Mike ate a well balanced diet and supplemented for Vitamin D, before taking a testosterone supplement. He states that after a couple of weeks he was able to pass a wall with his lifting, increasing most weights by around 10%. He didn't have any other complaints to test efficacy for libido or mood improvement, although this could be seen as subjective either way. Added to this we did test his testosterone levels before and after taking it using postal test checkers medichecks.

He was originally at 20.9nmol and had increased to 24.4nmol. Which is a jump of 15% in testosterone production, keeping in mind he was already supplementing for Vitamin D, so the difference did not come from there. He swears that he didn't change his diet or regimen. Whilst, this is simply one anecdotal example, it should be noted it at least seems to work as a testosterone supplement.

Whilst a sample of 1 is not a good representation, it does represent a noticeable jump in an already healthy 32 year old man. The direct quote from Mike was "last time I jumped up this much with just supplementation was when I discovered creatine", this was his third time trialling a natural testosterone booster.

Testofuel is used by former Mr Olympia Robby Robinson

Find out why he and 1000s of other men like him are using testofuel to stay shredded into their older years. And why we rank it number one in our best testosterone booster supplements list. Robby Robinson swears it's helped him continue to build muscle mass into his later years.

Is Hunter's Testosterone Booster Any Good?

Hunter Test comes from the well regarded Hunter product range, they offer nootropics, fat burners as well as test boosters. All of which are part of a premium range. So, in short yes it's good, but it's not for people on a budget. We generally recommend Hunter Test. To be honest we like pretty much everything in the hunter range, including burn, which helps control appetite and strip body fat and focus which improves mood and concentration.

Is Hunter Test Safe?

Hunter's premium testosterone booster is safe. It's produced in FDA approved factories and publishes a complete list of it's ingredients. Of course you should still check allergen information.

How Do Testosterone Boosting Supplements Work?

Testosterone boosting supplements typically work by either tackling vitamin deficiencies, or by loading your body up with naturally occurring compounds that have been shown to raise testosterone levels. As such, not all test boosters are created equal and some are little more than an expensive multivitamin. The good ones however, are likely to contain not only ingredients to help deficiency, but also ingredients that you are not likely to get in your day to day life. The other thing that some brands include are ingredients that are designed to bind to estrogen, meaning that they lower estrogen levels, this leaves you with more "free testosterone" which is what actually has the effect on your body and performance. These supplements do not exist to help you get stacked beyond belief and they don't include any form of synthetic testosterone. As such they are not an alternative to TRT, but they are designed to make sure your body has everything it needs to make as much free testosterone as it can.

And as these products all contain different blends, some contain only ingredients that are clinically proven to raise test levels, and others are simply snake oil salesmen, as you'd expect though, anything that's made it to our best testosterone boosters list is of course in the well researched scientific category.

Boosters That Didn't Make The Cut

But, are still good. Just not the "best" at anything.

What Ingredients Are In Good Testosterone Boosters?

When you're looking for a high quality testosterone booster that works, you'll want to make sure that you keep an eye out for the following ingredients, and make sure that they're in high enough volumes to actually be effective.

Ashwagandha For Testosterone

Ashwagandha is a natural herb that is backed up by most scientific research. One study tested the effects of ashwagandha on infertile men and found a 17% increase in testosterone levels and a 167% increase in sperm count. It has also been shown to help increase free testosterone levels.

Vitamin D3, B6, and B12

These vitamins are pretty common place in Test Boosters, this is largely due to the fact that all of these vitamins are required for the body to effectively produce free testosterone. Vitamin D has been shown to help with erectile dysfunction.

Minerals

Zinc and Magnesium are particularly notable when it comes to hormone regulation, these particular minerals are also lacking in western diets and adding them to test boosters means that deficiencies are removed as a potential cause of declining testosterone production.

D-Aspartic Acid

D aspartic acid is one of the best testosterone boosting compounds outside of the essential vitamins and minerals and has been seen to be particularly effective at treating infertility in men.  And it is involved in the synthesis of testosterone. This is why it makes its way into most T boosters, especially those that are aimed at libido and virility.

Indole-3-Carbinol

Indole 3 Carbinol is very effective, but can be quite expensive as such it doesn't make it into many T boosters, but is in Hunter Burn, which makes the top 3 on our best testosterone boosters list and is unsurprisingly premium.  It works by syncing with sex module binding globulins that testosterone binds to, meaning that you are left with higher free testosterone levels, aka the test that your body actually uses.

Ginger

Ginger makes it into a lot of boosters, especially testosterone boosters for men over 50. Beyond it's test boosting effects it's really good at settling stomachs, which is helpful for people taking a lot of supplements.

L Arginine (HCL)

L Arginine has been shown to be involved in the hormonal elements of muscle growth. It didn't seem to have much impact on trained athletes, but in less physically fit individuals it led to substantial performance increases. It's generally included in some test boosters that are designed to improve gym performance and muscle growth over those that are designed to enhance libido.

Nettle Extract

Nettle leaves are really just a bulking ingredient, they don't seem to have much more effect than simply consuming some leafy greens would. Granted this is highly concentrated, so if you're not getting enough green veg in your otherwise healthy diet, then it's not going to do any harm, but it's not going to make a massive difference either.

Red Ginseng

Ginseng, or panax ginseng has been used in traditional medicine for 1000s of years, only recently have studies started to show its efficacy. However, initial studies to seem to show that it improves male reproductive health in humans and mice, as well as suggesting it improves other masculine traits, such as muslce growth. But, it should also be noted that the active ginsenosides are still being studied.

Bioperine

Bioperine is in a lot of the best testosterone boosters, it's a black pepper extract that's been proven to help the body absorb nutrients and vitamins more effectively. It's not essential, but is a helpful addition when it's used.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek has been shown to boost testosterone in men, both total and free as well as being well tolerated. The same study also showed it to increase performance in strength training, and was well tolerated by the subjects. Thanks to this and several other double blind trials it's made its way into a lot of the higher quality t boosters on the market.

What To Avoid When Looking For A Testosterone Supplement

Whether or not you choose to go with one of the products we've recommended there are a couple of things you should avoid at all costs, particularly when it comes to testosterone booster pills. Whilst, dietary supplements can be sketchy at times, it's often more dangerous with those that promote testosterone production. Be very wary of exaggerated claims from proprietary blends that are not known brands. Especially any produced overseas in none FDA approved facilities, there have been cases where some supposedly natural testosterone supplements have included male sex hormone and anabolic steroids. Needless to say these worked and increased testosterone levels, but came with substantial risk and side effects.

All of the products on our list have been tested and marked as safe.

Are Testosterone Boosters Worth It?

All of the ingredients in the products in our best testosterone boosters list have either been shown to help raise testosterone production or help with other elements of male health. That said, it should be noted that natural test boosters are not regulated in the same way that perscription medicines are, as such not all natural test boosters are created equal. When tested over the counter testosterone boosters were only proven to be effective about 30% of the time. However, a 1 in 3 shot of avoiding more serious treatment is probably a risk that a lot of men would be willing to take for an increase in test levels.

Are There Other Ways To Boost Testosterone Levels Naturally?

The good news is yes, but it depends what's causing your decline in testosterone. Typically speaking weight loss is one of the most effective ways to raise testosterone and partake in regular excercise, of course if you're already in good shape, then that may not be the solution. There have also been some studies that suggest a ketogenic diet could be effective, but the research is not definitive.

The main things you can do however are:

Strength training – Increasing your muscle mass is one surefire way to help your body produce more testosterone.

Balanced diet – As you'd expect this means you're far more likely to get all the vitamins and minerals you need.

Avoid alcohol – Alcohol can be devastating for your body's hormone production. Beer, especially, has a huge impact as it contains a large amount of phytoestrogen and prolactin content which increase production levels of the female hormone estrogen.

Sleep – This isn't really a shock for anyone, sleep not only helps your muscles grow, but is essential for healthy male hormone production.

How Important Is Testosterone For Male Health?

We all know that test is essential for male sexual health, reproduction, sperm quality and protein synthesis for building muscle. But, it goes far beyond just the bedroom and the gym. Men’s mental health is directly impacted this essential hormone starts to drop as you get older and can plummet even faster if you live an unhealthy lifestyle. Low testosterone can not only cause depression, but can also affect focus, sleep and ultimately have a compounding effect that will only get worse over time. Testosterone booster supplements do offer men an opportunity to help battle some of the issues, particularly if any of them are caused by a nutrient deficiency. The health benefits of improving T levels can be absolutely astounding and range from sexual performance, to lean muscle mass, and better mood regulation.

What Are The Benefits Of Increased Testosterone

More Lean Muscle Mass

Testosterone boosting supplements claim that by improving test levels, they can help you gain more lean muscle mass. Studies have repeatedly shown that higher free test levels did in fact mean men would build more muscle mass, even without working out. Beyond that however, some of the best testosterone booster supplements contain extra ingredients that should assist with muscle recovery.

Improved Libido

Perhaps one of the most difficult issues to talk about that can be caused by dropping below normal testosterone levels is libido difficulties. A natural testosterone booster can help with this, however it's unlikely that it would directly cause ED, as this tends to be either a blood flow or psychological issue, although the latter can be impacted by T levels. Some testosterone booster supplements are geared towards libido and performance specifically, containing ingredients further designed to aid this specific issue. So, if this is a concern, then make sure to look at one of those.

Better Metabolism

Low testosterone leads to increased fat storage, particularly belly fat and around the chest, not areas that anyone wants to be storing excess fat. Boosting testosterone production will help increase your bodies ability to burn fat.

Better Mood And Energy Levels

Testosterone is an essential hormone, not just for bodily health, but mental health as well. Improved mood, focus and concentration are just some of the many health benefits attached to stimulating natural testosterone production. This is one area where a testosterone booster supplement can be good for men regardless of if they're looking for a specific benefit.

What Are The Symptoms Of Low Testosterone?

Some of the most common symptoms are:

  • Low Energy Levels
  • Decreased Libido
  • Muscle Loss
  • Mood Changes
  • Hot Flashes

If any of this has come on rapidly, you should see your doctor, you can also get mail off test level checks, but these aren’t quite as accurate. It is possible that you’re testosterone levels are slowly declining with age. In which case supplementation is going to help.

What Is The Best Test Booster?

For most people the best option currently is TestoFuel.
